There’s a great new jailbreak tweak that you can use to edit a song’s metadata right from the iOS music app!
You can use this tweak to conveniently change information about your songs, such as title names, genres or artist names from your iOS device. For just $2.99 you can edit tags for all of your media – music, videos, podcasts, and whatever! The jailbreak app even lets you locally edit music tags that you download from iTune.
There is a competing app called ShowSongMetadata that you can use to access the metadata of each song you have within your stock iOS music app. With ShowSongMetadata, you can view the all kinds of song information, including any comments and the play and skip count information for previously played songs. This is great functionality, but if you want to edit metadata attributes, then you are out of luck.
Music players, including portable players access the data associated with a song through online databases. They pull the data from the cloud and then store it on your drive. Online databases use the same protocol as music players like iPods. They use “ID3 tags” to store the data and embed on MP3s WAV files and other file formats.
For those of you who keep your music libraries super organized, you probably know that you can manage and edit your song’s data in iTunes and then sync the music so that your music app reflects the updated metadata. You have probably been looking for an easy way to do it and TagExplorer is it. Right now the metadata that you can edit is limited – just song title, artist and album name – but we’re sure that future versions will have greater capabilities. You can access this jailbreak app from the Big Boss repository in Cydia.
As stated earlier in the article, you will have to jail break your phone to get this tweak, so head over to the TaiG jailbreak tool if you’re using Windows, or the PP tool if you’re using Mac. TagExplorer is a standalone app, so you won’t have to initiate a software restart (respring). Just look for the app icon on your device’s Home screen after downloading and you can start modifying your media content’s ID 3 tags to your heart’s content.
